3 Key Questions to "Defining You"

There are days in our lives that lead us to reflect on who we are and what we have become. This reflection usually comes in the wake of bad news or a traumatic situation that occurs in our lives. We usually ask ourselves profound questions like, “Have I lived the life I wanted to? Am I happy? Who can I count on when the chips are down? What is my purpose in this life?”

All these questions lead back to the definition of you and how you put your life experiences and lessons into perspective. Defining "you" is a process of taking all the goods, bads, questions and reality into account to create your definition and plan. Your definition encompasses characteristics, qualities, knowledge, confidence, experiences and the direction. Each one of these aspects alone is daunting to think about, although when you relate each one back to your purpose, alignment is more tangible.

Three questions to ask yourself when starting the “defining you” process:

  1. What are the top 4 qualities I see in myself and how do they align with my direction?

  2. What are the top 2 events in my life that have shaped me and how have they influenced me?

  3. Do I see myself as moving positively & productively through my life? If not what is holding me back?

Answering these questions is just the first step in a process that will act as your GPS through life. Understanding how to utilize all the aspects of your internal GPS and which voice you want to guide you will be in that definition.

“Life is a series of moments that stem from experience, which if we learn from, will offer us perspective on who we are and what we can become.”
